In the Market: Black Peppermint

blackpeppermintresize.jpgOne of our favorite aspects of the summer greenmarkets is the special varieties of fresh herbs that Gothamist can rarely find in grocery stores around the city. Lemon verbena. Chocolate mint. Coconut thyme. But what to do with them all?

Gothamist picked up a bunch of black peppermint for $1.75 from the Union Square greenmarket and experimented by adding it to a fresh tomato salsa and even making a black peppermint ginger ale. Remember to taste your herbs before using them - the black peppermint can be pungent!

What are the favorite greenmarket herb varieties that you've had? What have you made with them?
