Tonight is Gothamist's Movable Hype 4.0 show at Knitting Factory with Doveman, Raising the Fawn, Bravo Silva, and Langhorne Slim. In case you missed it, we interviewed Langhorne, Doveman, and Raising the Fawn.
The free shows of summer are drawing to a close, but not without a bang. Spend nothing but your time at a show almost every night this week. "The Sugarhill Gang is an American hip hop group, known mostly for one hit, Rapper's Delight, the first hip hop single to become a Top 40 hit." [Wikipedia] "The Harlem-born Kurtis Walker (Kurtis Blow) was the first rap artist to sign with a major label, the first to undertake a national concert tour and the first to have a gold record—the immortal 1980 hit “The Breaks.”" [NYC Dept of Parks] See both hip-hop pioneers for free. The Sugarhill Gang play South Street Seaport on Thursday. Kurtis Blow is in Queensbridge Park on Tuesday.
The Double are an upcoming experimental indie rock band with a new album from Matador records due for release on Sept. 13th (listen at their Myspace page). The female-fronted Tomorrow's Friend have been described as indie-pop blues-rock. They perform together at the Seaport on Wednesday. Expect a much smaller crowd than the mob scene that's likely to turnout for the Friday Ted Leo & The Pharmacists show on the same stage. Get there early for a good spot.
And now the day by day...

Thursday on a Thursday. It's not a reunion, and they're not quite legendary, but since finding mainstream fame with their last album, it's rare for the opportunity to catch this band in a small venue (not to mention we can't remember the last time they played at all). It's even rarer for the venue to be CBGB. (Thurday @ CBGB)
"The curious world of Mr. Dickinson, unfolds. Criminally overlooked, his band The Catherine Wheel, is inarguably one of the most influential and yet invisible bands in history. They quietly unleashed 6 brilliant albums all an artistic development of the last and all reflecting a musical force that could crush any band that dared share a stage - ask Radiohead or The Smashing Pumpkins about that." [Joe's Pub] (Rob Dickinson @ Joe's Pub)

What did we miss?

Make Believe show at NorthSix was unfortunately cancelled.
Why would anyone want to see shitty bands no one has ever heard of with a bunch of spoiled rich kids who run a blog with a computer paid for by daddy?
you missed Ted Leo and the Pharmacists doing a free show at South Street Seaport on Saturday night.
