this is true about the amazing gorgeousness of the trianglist. such a lovely figure. but the flawlessness of her appearance sort of goes along with karen's boyfriend's cult comment above. like a stepford backup singer. if it weren't for the smugness i detected in her face (from self-awareness of how hot she is i guess), she would be a good match for sufjan's soccer team captain good looks, and his sickeningly sincere skyward gaze.

Anyone who thinks Sufjan should drop the band should take a close (a REAL close look) at the triangle/xylophone player.

Couldn't disagree more about the venue, though I saw Friday's show. Having so many sounds melded into a song demands a great sound system and the Bowery Ballroom probably has the best sound in NYC short of a formal concert hall. Liked it so much, I decided to keep my tix for tonight. Anyone know if they plan on going on earlier for the weeknight? 11:45 is nuts for the M-F 9-5ers

Gotta agree with Gothamist about the standing thing although I didn't feel it to be too much of a hindrance since I love Surjan so much. I thought The Castanets were also pretty amazing as the opening act. Saw Surjan last year at Southpaw opening for John Vanderslice and thought that was a better venue to appreciate the sweetness of his music.

I think Sufjan should lose the band entirely. They really are not up to his level of musicianship, and I think the best sounding parts of the show were when he was singing and playing solo. You are right about the standing. Suf is aware of this and is trying to book more venues with fixed seating. The late start annoyed me too, and the two opening acts (Sunday) were a drag though the girl from Bunky has a superb voice. Enough with the horns already.

I saw the show last night, and I enjoyed it, but my boyfriend (formerly a big Sufjan fan) absolutely hated it. He thought Sufjan seemed like a egomaniacal cult leader who had brainwashed his bandmates into unwaivering, unthinking submission. Don't know that I agree or if anyone else would, but I can see where he's coming from.
