Record Setting Weekend

2005_08_raintree.jpgWasn't it just last Friday that Gothamist was whining about wanting more variety in the weather? Did you enjoy the thunder, lightning and record-setting rain last night? Central Park received 3.1 inches of rainfall, shattering the old record of 1.74 inches set in 1873. 1873! The records that fell on Saturday were for high temperatures. The recording stations at Central Park, LaGuardia, JFK, Newark and Islip all reached new peaks for the day.

The building where Gothamist is currently sequestered is on generator power this afternoon. We'll keep this short as we don't know when the fuel will run out. Cooler the rest of the week. We may not break 80 tomorrow. Warmer toward the weekend. Hurricane Irene is headed out to sea and unlikely to be a threat to the East Coast unless something very unusual happens.
