At the start of the season, the Mets had two players that could excel in center field, Carlos Beltran and Mike Cameron. After yesterday's game in San Diego, they've lost both. A collision in the 7th inning between Beltran and Cameron, who has played right field most of the season, sent both players to the hospital.
The two players dove for a ball hit by David Ross and collided head first. Beltran escaped with a sore shoulder and a small cut on his head. Cameron, however, had a broken nose, cheekbones, and a minor concussion. Beltran is listed as day-to-day and Cameron has been placed on the DL. To add insult to injury, Ross had a stand-up triple that ended up being the winning run. Tom Glavine threw for 7 innings but picked up his 10th loss of the season.
While the Mets lost 2-1, it's obviously more important that the injuries to Beltran and Cameron were not more serious. Watching the video, it's almost surprising to us that it wasn't worse.

Saw it this morning on TV. That was some Hit! I hope they both make a full recovery...
If they didn't call it, Bet they call the ball next time they each go for it.
Too many CFs in the OF spoil the broth. But man, my condolences, watching the replay it looked awful. The sad part was, as you correctly pointed out, that the injury allowed the triple that eventually won the game. Tough break, but I'm sure Cameron will return in double-quick time.
Could he come back with the Rip Hamilton facemask?
i don't think either of them really had the time to call it. it was a line drive that both were going hard after.
i'm not sure anybody really calls those.
