Much of the pleasure of Coney Island is found in the fact that it's a place that clearly hasn't changed much in the last 50 years; it's one of the few places in New York that can make such a claim (it's actually the ONLY place I can think of). And who wants to ride the F train for an hour to go to a mall?

The thing with Coney Island development is that the place is a seasonal destination at best. There's very little reason for most people to go out that way outside of the spring/summer season. This is partially why the place is the way it is. It's not Times Square where people travel through it every day, it's a place you have to make a decision to go to. Heck, even Pizza Hut/Taco Bell opened... And then closed shop there... If they do anything, they need to recognize that.

Well, there goes the neighborhood. Coney Island's faded charm is going to be developed out of existence, and it will be another shiny amusement park for yuppies.

i remember about a year ago, marty markowitz was talking about how there was going to be development of coney island. i wonder if this is what he was talking about.
