This is just great: There may be hidden messages in the London bombers' clothing. It seems that some of the July 7 and July 21 bombers were wearing clothes with New York or Yankees logos. What, no love for the Mets? In last week's slightly controversial briefing, the NYPD said, "We immediately seized on the fact that there were New York insignia. We spent a lot of time examining this. We still don't know precisely what it meant." As in, does it mean that the bombers are trying to target New Yorkers, taunt New Yorkers, or just appreciate how awesome New York is? Given the way the City wants to act during this kind of suspicious behavior, Gothamist knows only one way to stop it: Burn anything NYC related overseas and BAN the export of anything NYC related outside of the fifty states (and Puerto Rico). Or, to keep an even closer eye on the goods, just limit NYC paraphenalia to the five boroughs. And make people take a test before buying anything NYC related, like, "Name at least two subway lines that are the color 'orange.'"
Gothamist on the London bomber's NYC sweatshirt. And if you do want to show off your love of your home, go to Neighborhoodies or buy a Gothamist t-shirt to do it up right - don't let the terrorists win!

ooo! ooo! i know!!! the B and the F!!!! Can I get a shirt now!!!
Yeah. And Paul is dead. Doesn't anytone think they might be overthinking just a little bit?
I just got back from 4 months abroad. NY gear is bootlegged all over europe, the same way those Fendi/Prada knockoffs are all over the place, anything that says 'New York', esp. yankees hats, is on every other street corner for cheap.
Just a shot in the dark, but I think Al Qaeda's #2 man coming out and saying "New York and London are next" is a little bit more of a clue than a bomber in a New York sweatshirt. But I'm not a CIA analyst--what the hell do I know?
I don't think the NYC sweatshirts are without significance given the botched bombers' stated intentions re: the Iraq war.
Do you think we should make anything of the fact that of the hundreds of London stations they could have attacked, they chose the WARren street, shepherd's BUSH and OVAL stations?
Do you think you might have given some thought to these little details if this was potentially going to be the last act of your life?
Questions worth asking.
Of course, Don Rumsfeld assures us there's no connection.
Now back to the consumerism.

The only cap people wear over there is the Yankee's ball cap. Most of them have no idea it even represents a baseball team.
I've lived abroad in London and you would be suprised how much American clothing is worn over there. (our country DOMINATES everything)
Basketball jerseys (NBA) seem to be the hottest thing, while New York shirts and hats are really popular (especially the coveted "Brooklyn" shirts), along with University of Miami, Duke, UNC, etc.
In China, Chicago Bulls jerseys are all the rage. So no, it's not a sign or a signal, just some dude who needed a jacket to ware. Please don't read into this.
Actually the sweatshirt states: "New You" and not "New York." IN other photos the "You" is more clear. It is a common misconeption that it is one those Blue Marlin type New York sweatshirts.
Good catch on the "New You" thing in the above comments; I've seen that picture a thousand times and each time my gotham eyes deceive me. Howeve, my theory is a lot more pat than the NYPDs- the terrorists were masquerading as ne'er do well jocks, comfortably numb in their sportswear. Pretty tricksy if you ask me.
