Remember...

Right when Gothamist had given up hope that the Cube (er, Tony Rosenthal's The Alamo) would ever return to its rightful place in Astor Place, instead to be replaced by that very unspinnable building the Sculpture for Living, comes word (third to last item) that it will eventually return. Warner Johnston, a Parks Department spokesperson, reports that the Cube, which was supposed to return 60 days after it was removed in March, is undergoing extra renovation thanks to new funds from the Department of Transportation (who actually owns the sculpture). "We will do a complete restoration taking it apart, replacing the axle, ball bearings. It will be spinnable and will be back in a couple of months." reported Johnston. Let's hope so, we miss it.

WTF! If a three man team were to do that it would take like 2 days to replace the axl and bearings and give it a paint job. what have they been doing for 5 months?!? Do they grease one bearing on it each day? do they paint a line of black 5 millimeters long every day? is it that complex?

Next time those girls sit there, someone careless will spin the cube, and whoomp, brains on the pavement and a legal shitstorm brewing.

Hopefully with the return of the cube, we'll also get more tragically hip and jaded skateboarders since they'll have shade from which to scowl at people with jobs. Oh, that will be so awesome.

YEAH! ALONG WITH THE CUBE, I CALL FOR THE RETURN OF THE SKATERS, PUNKS, GOTHS AND OTHER MISCELLANEOUS MISFITS THAT USED TO GO WITH IT. IT WILL GIVE ASTOR PLACE A TRUE SENSE OF LEGITIMACY ONCE AGAIN. ALWAYS A NICE THING IF YOU'RE SPENDING A COUPLE MILL TO LIVE IN AND FURNISH ONE OF THE ROOMS ACROSS THE WAY.

BURST BABY BURST. SOON. DON'T YOU THINK? I KNOW YOU DO.
