Relief is Over Elmira and Headed Our Way

2005_07_cfront.jpgThe low temperature in Central Park this morning was 83 degrees. 83! That's higher than tomorrow's predicted maximum. The cold front that will usher in that relief currently cuts across upstate from Glens Falls to Elmira. It should be here early this evening. The insufferable heat and humidity will continue throughout the afternoon and the heat advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. Because of the heat and humidity today has been delcared an Ozone Action Day.

The hot weather may end with a bang. The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch. The watch is valid until 8 p.m. and includes all of the city, suburbs and much of the Hudson Valley. A severe thunderstorm watch means conditions are favorable for the formation of, uh, severe thunderstorms. High winds and intense rainfall are possible early this evening.

It will be much cooler tomorrow into early next week. Expect high temperatures in the upper 70s to lower 80s each day. There may be some leftover showers tomorrow. The weekend, however, looks grand.
