July 30 - 31: Gin Weekend
A whole weekend of gin-filled goodness. Learn all about gin and taste LeNell's gin selections, including Dutch genever jonge and oulde (we have no idea what those are, but they sound fancy). LeNell's Ltd, 416 Van Brunt Street between Coffey and Van Dyke, Brooklyn. Noon to Midnight (Sat); Noon to Nine (Sun).

August 2: The Thrill of the Grill - Great Wines for Grilling
Best Cellars spends an evening showing us how to pick wines that will stand up to the damage we can do with a bit of charcoal and some fire. 6:30 - 8:30 pm, Brasserie Julien, 1422 Third Avenue between 80 and 81st Streets. $55 for one, $100 for two. Purchase tickets online.

  • Genever is a remarkable and many-splendored beast. Jonge and oulde should be young and old, as in aged or not. Sounds like great fun!
