i'm not sure, but wasn't the ny state legislature listed as the most inefficient in the country? that sounds like legacy material to me.

I agree that Pataki has done precious little for New York. How he managed to hang on for 3 terms says everything about the failure and mismanagement of the Democrats. How this homely hulking cipher could think he could possibly have a chance, as president, is obviously the result of an alcohol-saturated spin-doctors wet dream.

The clean water/clean air bond act that he got passed in 1996 will probably be Pataki's great legacy. It truly has done a lot to protect the environment across the state, though why funds from it are being used to repair Grace Church are a mystery to me.

I hate pataki. This guy does nothing for NYC, one reason metrocards are $2 a ride and $76 for a pass is because this douche doesn't fund the MTA on a state level

Elliot Spitzer is the Mark Green of statewide politics: he's an annoying, self-promoting nudnik. We have enough of that with Chuck Schumer. We don't need another one.

I was trying to think of what Pataki's legacy will be as New York governor. Other than bringing back the death penalty (yuck), he hasn't done anything of note (good or bad) during his entire tenure as governor. I suppose there was the slight reform of the Rockefeller drug laws last year, but that's not something he can really take credit for. He's just sort of been....there. I agree with the comment about him being "charmless" -- does this guy really think he'll be able to compete on a national stage? And now that Bush has been re-elected, his successful career as a Pioneer (or was it Ranger?) is now over as well.
