Second Avenue Subway Psych

Finally, the MTA is admitting that the Second Avenue Subway will be delayed for "at least two years." At an MTA meeting, Mysore L. Nagaraja, the president of the MTA's capital construction (which sounds like a cool but terribly frustrating job) announced this news, saying that the transit bond that voters will vote on this fall will affect the plans; Governor Pataki and the State did not give the MTA even half of the $7.9 billion they requested earlier. While civic leaders are upset, we're sure some Second Avenue residents and business owners are temporarily relieved. An analyst says that the Second Avenue subway, the T-Line, could generate $1.2 billion annually if built, which makes Gothamist wonder how much further, even with that money, the MTA would be in the red. Gothamist will go out on a limb and say that the Second Avenue subway project will gain traction after Spitzer or some other Governor's second term. Or maybe there will be more bonds created to support it. The other project that is being put on ice is the LIRR's Grand Central to Penn Station East Side Access plan. That plan has more of a chance, State wise, of passing since it involves non-New Yorkers as well...man, we despise Pataki.

i'm sorry, but you're glossing over the most important part of this story: the fact that the guy's name is MYSORE.

do you think the beating he took in junior high school were daily, or did they just save it up for one friday afternoon wedgie-fest?

Two years. Heh.

Dedicated bus lanes are the answer, on 2nd Avenue and an oppositely directioned avenue.

Turn 2nd avenue into a bicycle greenway. That's the answer.

Why is there no article or link to the radio station payola scandaL? sony bmg bribed station owners to play their songs and fool the public into thinking there was actually any demand for their "artists". seriously, I remember way back in 98 when I first heard the backstreet boys on the radio and said to myself "How the fuck is this shit on the air?". I seriously want people to go down for this. Having to listen to avril lavigne, celine dion, J LO, and enrique iglesias and many others pissed me off so much! If it were up to me stations would play reo speedwagon and journey all day long. and that wasn't a joke SPEEDWAGON RULES ALL!

"Having to listen to avril lavigne, celine dion, J LO, and enrique iglesias and many others pissed me off so much!"

Then why did you listen to it?? There are other radio stations out there, like WFMU... all of those major radio stations suck huge sweaty rhino balls; I've never been sure who actually listens to them.

Hello? they played those songs everywhere! the radio stations just got the ball rolling to hearing those songs in shopping malls, in cars, in elevators, on almost every other radio station, on all the mtv sister channels. The country was saturated with that garbage and there was nowhere to escape. It's easy to say you can turn off the radio but you can't escape the white noise din. radio was the catalyst so I blame them.

I don't know... I rarley seem to hear that crap. Of course, I don't watch TV much at all, and I don't go to shopping malls or drive much at all either. Even if I do drive, I'll listen to nothing if I have to listen to JLo What elevators do you ride?

I think your obsessing a little.

GOTHAMIST: You can say "suck huge sweaty rhino balls" on Gothamist?

BACK ON TOPIC: These transportation projects are ones that NYC needs badly and one that I wanted to monitor as Manhattan Borough President. We seem to be getting the short end of the stick very often.

INTERVIEW: Eva Moskowitz is my council member. I went to her with a problem--twice. She couldn't be bothered to even respond, so I'm running against her--if she makes it out of the big Dem. BP primary.

Barry - I'll vote for you... I know that BPs essentially don't do anything but waste taxpayer money, but if you're willing to write "suck huge sweaty rhino balls", then you've got my vote! (even if you were quoting me).

BP for BP!

MYSORE: I should point out that this is a region in India (a country I've visited twice). The name "Mysore" is not unusual.

EVA MOSKOWITZ INTERVIEW BLUNDER: We're not allowed to comment on the interviews, but this was a big puzzler:

Q: "Your district happens to cover your old high school, Stuyvesant. What are some good Stuy memories you have? And we want the story on how you and your husband met there!"

A: "I still love Veniero’s on 11th street, where I spent a lot of time after school.

"I met my husband Eric as a sophomore. He was hitting on my best friend at the time, who was not interested."
...
...
Stuyvesant TOWN is in her district. Stuyvesant HIGH SCHOOL is NOT in her district! Stuyvesant High School is at 345 Chambers Street, at Battery Park City, in City Council District 1. How could she possibly not know this?? For the city council maps, see:

Yeah! Screw Eva Moskowitz, whoever she is!!

Vote for Popik!!!

I have no idea what district she presides over but, Stuyvesant used to be located in another building before relocating to 345 Chambers. Therefore, she might preside over the district where Stuy used to be located.

I don't care how long it takes (well, actually I do, but like a cathedral, this seems to be taking decades, no matter what happens), but the 2nd avenue subway has to be built. Even if just for political reasons (to piss off the republican oil lobby).

Seriously, there is another aspect to this; once built, having looked at the proposed alignment, the map screams for another line to be built under 125th street, starting at Broadway (the 1/2/3 station), and going west all the way out to Laguardia, and points west. And could the Metro-North have a station at 125th and 2nd avenue? Connecting all of Manhattan and the Hudson Valley to Laguardia (and Harlem), surely would be worth the cost.

OK, so, I'm a dreamer. Somebody has to.

Elliot
(Quick survey: which will be finished first: the 2nd avenue subway, or Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine?)
