It was only a matter of time before the power of Cafe Press would be harnessed to express what many people are thinking! The Village Voice reported that shortly after the NYPD announced they would be checking subway - and bus - riders' bags randomly, Tony Lu created these t-shirts online. Lu, an immigrants rights activist, is concerned that immigrants and other poor New Yorkers are most vulnerable to the NYPD's tactics, even though the police claim they will not be racially profiling. (The Voice adds, "Lu will not get a cut. The shirts' manufacture, sale, and shipment, will be handled by the online retailer. Lu encourages budget-conscious New Yorkers to make their own and wear them everywhere.")
There's just one thing missing from the shirt: Words on the back reading "I'm going to the next station entrance, sucker."

Ironically, I can't think of a single greater factor than wearing this shirt that would cause one to be singled out by the cops for a bag search. Maybe one that said "Richard Reid Is My Homeboy" but probably not even. "WWAD--What Would Atta Do?"

I guess most people who are against this measure don't read very much. Because if they did, they'd know that at the Mid-Manhattan and Donnell libraries they search your bags on the way in and on the way out. I don't see anybody protesting against that.
Duh! Get your head out of those books, bookworm. Are those library searches random? They were searching all bags for people leaving the Brooklyn Public Library 30 years ago. That's fairly effective, though. Just picking a few people to search every once in a while and then asking for their consent isn't. Sooner or later, you have to leave the library, so a thief would have no choice but to submit to the search. Unlike a bomber who just gets to walk away from a search.
