Last night, with several Gothamist staff members running in the Nike Run Hit Wonder race in Central Park, we decided to go along for moral support. Nevermind the fact that we arrived after the start of the race, didn't have contact information, or that nearly 10,000 runners all look the same when wearing red DRI-Fit t-shirts. We'll ignore those details and say that we did run into Neil, but there was no sighting of Kevin or Doug. Congratulations to all those that ran and finished, for we were struggling just standing around in the heat.
Unfortunately, we were unable to see any of the musical acts that lined the 5-mile course, but we did watch the post-race concert with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. For those that ran, how did you do? Did you enjoy the music and did it help you run through the heat?

does anybody have a link to the results? we need to shower the best gothamist staff runner with praise!
also, joan jett is ripped!
being my first ever race, and most likely last in the gothamist team pool, I was kinda happy with my performance. The event itself was nice a lot of pluses, but you only really heard the music for like 20-30 seconds when you were in front of the artist. I just wish I brought my headphones. Oh, that and 10,000 people running in central park is way too crowded. I think though I will continue running, it was enjoyable.
The results should be posted at nyrrc.org, but they aren't there yet.

Only four pictures since I didn't want to carry my camera over a five-mile run, but you get a sense of the red shirts taking over Central Park and the subways.
I'm assuming the bands did the same songs over and over again. I heard Fountains of Wayne do "Stacey's Mom" as I ran by, but I think they were positioned at about mile two. I can't imagine they played a full set for 10,000 runners sweating their way along the route.
Results should be up in a day or two.
came up from Philly for the race although a bad toe kept me from running at the last minute. Still loved it though!
It was a great way to celebrate my 30th birthday. I agree, it was a bummer to hear such a short snippet of the bands. They should set up speakers along the way. I think they must have played a short set over and over, because we heard F.O.W. playing Radiation Vibe.
The heat definitely had an effect on performance, but the weather was abit better than the previous two days. I thought last year's line up was better, more retro, but Jett played an awesome set. I posted some pics of the shwag we received on my blog.
P.S. Results are up on NYRR.org. I ran a 43:23, 8:40 pace - slower than I should have been. How'd the Gothamists do?
Man, I'm disappointed that I missed out on Joan Jett! I hope to catch the Donnas tonight, though. Did she give a shout-out to Freaks and Geeks when she played "Bad Reputation"? I hear she does that.
finished in 42:25, 8:29 pace- next year I hope to navigate the crowd at the starting line and avoid the time delay!
Lancefan, if you really want to navigate the crowd effectively for this race (and pretty much all other NYRR races) line up at a mile marker 2 minutes faster than your pace. I spend most of my time weaving through people who are clearly not running an 8mm pace..
47:21, 9:28 pace, 2724th place out of 7551 total runners.
what can one do about nipple chafe?
Smitty, one thing works - bandaids on nips. I tried the vaseline, that doesn't work if you sweat alot. The bandaids consistently work, and I had it so bad that my white shirt would be bloody. Ew.
I somehow sweat out a 40:49... Man that was fun though. I enjoyed Devo last year better but Joan was kickass. Tien, your pics are all from exctaly where I was... I forgot my cell. Oh well. Next year!

fixes nipple chafe, albeit more expensively than a pack of band-aids.
If you're a cute girl, I've got a cure for nipple chafe right here!
That was race was a ball.
Fountains of Wayne played "Mexican Wine" and "Radiation Vibe" as I (slowly) shuffled past them.
