Movie Picks: Gus Van Sant's Last Days and Herzog's Grizzly Man

2005_07_artsLastDays.jpg Tonight, be sure to catch a sneak peak at this summer’s upcoming movies: MoMA’s Department of Film and Media presents Gus Van Sant’s Last Days, inspired and "loosely" based on Kurt Cobain’s last days before his suicide (with Michael Pitt as the struggling, Seattle-based grungy musician), at 9:00 PM, as well as Van Sant’s Elephant at 7:00 PM. $10

If you’re uptown, check out acclaimed Director Werner Herzog, who will be at the American Museum of Natural History at 7:30 PM to present a free screening of his latest documentary, Grizzly Man, which explores Timothy Treadwell, who lived unarmed among the grizzly bears and believed he could safely document the animals he spent so many years studying – only to be eventually devoured by one of them. A discussion with Herzog, co-executive producer Jewel Palovak, and renowned grizzly expert/wildlife biologist Barrie Gilbert, moderated by WNYC Studio 360 host Kurt Andersen, will take place immediately after the screening. AMNH, LeFrak Theatre, 1st Floor - enter at the 77th Street entrance between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue.

Can't wait to see Last Days. Interesting to hear this is the last of his "trilogy"; along with Elephant and Gerry.

Glad to see Jim Jarmusch with a new release coming out shortly, as is Cronenberg. The dry summer season looks to be over soon.
