Gothamist's favorite politician-reverend with a bouffant is supporting Bruce Ratner's plan for a Nets arena in downtown Brooklyn. Sharpton emphasized the jobs and housing that would be created by the huge complex would be great for the community. Sharpton had also supported the failed West Side Stadium bid, which leads a Baruch professor at the School of Public Affairs to say, "He has blocking power, but when it comes to supporting things, it's only a small plus."
The MTA says the may decide on the two proposals (Ratner's and Extell's) next week at the earliest, or it could take up to a couple months. And funnily enough, one of the two officers shot in Queens teased the Mayor about the failed West Side Stadium bid.

Sharpton was speaking at Duryea Presbyterian Church on the corner of Sterling and Underhill last night(I live at that same intersection), presumably pushing Ratner's agenda to the audience. There were some people from B.U.I.L.D. handing out leaflets, as well as news crews and police officers...
