i made this drink with 'regular' basil, as I couldn't find Thai. It worked very well and wouldn't let that stop you from trying the recipe.

Just be careful when picking up the basil--the "Mediterranean" or "Italian" variety never tastes right in Asian-y dishes. I think it would be especially noticeable in a drink.
