Are You Ready?

A survey says more than half of New Yorkers are ready to deal with an emergency, such as a terrorist attack or big natural disaster. Marist College's poll found 55% of people polled have a bag ready, and half have a plan for what to do. And when we read that, Gothamist started to freak out that we didn't have a plan or a Go Bag! We plan to use our wiles, grab our water and Mag-Lite and live like the rats and roaches in case of an emergency. Although those Dahon folding bikes look pretty sweet.

Do you have a plan? Here's the city's website for Ready New York and they do sell pre-made Go bags in some stores.

Please remain calm. There is nothing to freak out about. The chances of 8 million+ people having to evacuate is slim to none. Put some water in the fridge and some extra batteries in the flashlight, that is all you will ever need. Don't buy into the culture of fear begin foisted upon you.

I do have an emergency bottle of gin, vermouth, and queen spanish olives if that counts.

smells like a band name. Emergency Martini.

Personally, in case of emergency, I think I'd rather have the wine.

I have an emergency machete which I'll use on the first person I see to snag their go-bag. CHOP! CHOP! Then I hit my mountain bike and head for the Catskills. Borscht Belt here I come!

The machete will also come in handy for when the dead rise and eat the living.

Stan - that IS my band's name! wow!

I also forgot to mention that all three bottles are stored in a glass case mounted to my wall next to a hammer and sign that reads "break in case of emergency". What can I say...my hero is Lucille Bluth.

Where exactly are we supposed to go with our Go Kits?

You really only need two things.
Guns and ammo will get you whatever you need.
Protection, barter, make sure to hide a few.
Just in case the authorities do a Katrina confiscation but with 8 million, it's gonna be hard when cops can't get into the city from Suffolk or Rockland.
