Bloomberg Gets a Democratic Endorsement

2005_07_bloombergmike.jpgMayor Bloomberg received the endorsement of a Democratic club in the Bronx, home of frontrunning Democratic mayoral hopeful Fernando Ferrer. The Northwest Bronx Democratic Alliance, which had endorsed Ferrer in 2001, threw their support behind Bloomberg, saying Ferrer lacked "fire" this time around. The Bloomberg campaign is thrilled to have the endorsement, even though the Bronx Democratic Alliance is small and fairly new; Ferrer's campaign points out that one of the Mayor's deputy mayors, Carol Robles-Roman, is a leader in the club and may have "delivered" the endorsement. You may remember Robles-Roman from such incidents as "Using sirens and lights on her car in non-emergency situations simply to advance in traffic more easily."

An aide in the Ferrer campaign pointed out that one of Bloomberg's deputy mayors, Carol Robles-Roman, is a leader in the club and may have delivered the endorsement.

In 2009 news, City Comptroller William Thompson looks poised to run for Mayor if a Democrat isn't elected this election year as he faces his own reelection. But there's another Democrat being whsipered about for 2009: Oh, yes, it's Marty Markowitz, Brooklyn Borough President. While some think he has a shot, one insider snarks, "Is he going to go on a five-borough diet?"

That's pretty much the nail in the coffin for the Democrats when you have the Bronx endorse a Republican.

Time for them to look towards 2009

Don't forget that by law, every candidate has a very limited amount of money to spend until September. Every candidate except Bloomberg, that is. (Is that fair? That's for another debate.) Bloomberg is reportedly spending around $100 for each vote he's projected to receive.

However, I expect the race to blow wide open once the primaries are over and the spending caps are no longer strangling Bloomberg's main challenger.

For every $1 in campaign donations each dem. candidate receives $6 in tax money. Is that fair? This was another Gifford Miller sponsored scheme. He never tires of using tax money to buy votes.

It most certain isn't fair. Why are the Dems spending my tax dollars?????

Other Republican candidates are using public matching funds for their campaigns, so it is not a partisan issue. Bloomberg is alone in his opting out, which is fine.

The trouble is that Bloomberg is out-spending all of the other candidates (Republican, Democratic, Libertarian), because he has no limits. He knows that all other candidates aren't allowed to exceed a certain dollar amount. Bloomberg has already outspent them by nearly ten-fold. Bloomberg consistently shunned any proposed legislation to extend campaign spending limits to private individuals, because he knew that he would have the upper hand.

The campaign finance limits were not enacted specifically to save taxpayers' money--the purpose was to level the playing field for all candidates, so that future elections won't consist of only people with large wallets. Isn't that what democracy is?

It's not about the party. It's not about the money. It's about the results, stupid.

Mike Bloomberg is a mayor who knows how to get results that matter.

Here's a good question: Does Freddy Ferrer still have a heartbeat?

If there was someone more qualified than Bloomberg then I would vote for him/her. As of right now, all of the challengers have done nothing as elected officials other than blabber away and waste my tax dollars. I cannot select anyone from the following list:

Freddy "Foot 'n Mouth" Ferrer
Gifford "No Garbage" Miller
Anthony "the" Weiner
Virginia "I speak Chinese" Fields

"PolicyWonk," please post some of these results you speak of. Almost every "result" Bloomberg claims is actually a half-truth, which is verifyable by a large number of newspapers and sources.

Very eloquent, "just give up."

You know what, I really do almost feel like giving up.

Do you guys read the news or do you just like to call people "weiner" and "stupid" and snicker in the corner? Do you elect people on facts, or just their party? Do you do research on who you're voting for, or do you pick them on a gut feeling?

In the beginning, my gut feeling about Bloomberg was good. I liked him. He seemed all right. But then after some time passed, he started to do questionable things. Republicans and Libertarians scratched their heads and said, "What the hell is going on here?" If you think Bloomberg is a real Republican, the joke's on you. I'd take a real Republican any day over RINO Bloomberg.

Anyway, look at Bloomberg's website. Note his "Accomplishments" are actually carefully worded hot air. Read for yourself on Housing, for example. He uses "proposed" or he is "working on it" or "introduced a plan," but there's not a single, real sweeping accomplishment for housing on his own site! Read it three or four times if you don't notice details.

A lot of his numbers are also crooked. For example, for Education, Bloomberg says "Reduced crime in the most troubled schools by 43%..."

Note the words "in the most troubled schools." The 43% only applied to less than ten schools in the entire City of New York.

Also, this "Increased City funding for the Department of Education by $2.5 billion since 2002" is really misleading, as this money never fully arrived.

"Do you guys read the news or do you just like to call people "weiner" and "stupid" and snicker in the corner?"

I recall last fall that Anthony Weiner didn't like an article in the New York Press. He urged the public to throw stacks of the paper in the garbage. I've never seen a politician take such an anti-free speech stand. He is indeed a stupid weiner.

By choosing a champ like Michael Bloomberg, the Northwest Bronx Democratic Alliance has made a bold end run around the tired half-wits at Riverdale's other political club, the Franklin Reform Club (which has inexplicably backed the sure-to-lose Anthony Weiner).

So the Riverdale Democrats have thrown their support behind Mayor Bloomberg.
At first, I was a little dubious about whether the NBDA was legit. However, after a little searching, I came across the NBDA’s website at www.nwbda.org. I was impressed. The site is worth much more than just a glance. That club has real positions and some zip to boot. Also, they have a nice picture of the mayor speaking at their clubhouse.

I saw the Mayor at the Bronx Dominican Day Parade and then I heard about the NBDA’s endorsement on Radio WADO 1280-AM, the Spanish-language station. I was surprised & very happy. That club has guts. I intend to follow their lead.

The NY1 News report about the Riverdale Democratic endorsement said that Bloomberg had just rezoned part of Riverdale. Remember the old saying about one hand washing the other?

Nice move Riverdale Democrats! Stick it to Fernando Ferrer right in his own backyard. Way to go NBDA!

Way to go New Yorkers! We *can* be bought! We're dumb!

I just looked at the NBDA Riverdale Democratic Club’s web site at www.nwbda.org. In just the first few items, they celebrate Mayor Bloomberg, attack Councilman Oliver Koppell, support Senator Jeff Klein, and call on Congressman Eliot Engel to fire his assistant. You’ve got to hand it to them. The NBDA knows how to put on a show. I can’t wait until the next episode.

Doesn’t anyone think that the NBDA website (www.nwbda.org) seems a little too polished and well built for a rough-and-tumble Bronx political club? Maybe Bloomberg is financing that slick piece of political PR. After all, the Deputy Mayor is one of the NBDA's leaders. As for the NBDA’s endorsement of Bloomberg, I can't deny it's a big blow to Freddy Ferrer, but Freddy might still be able to pull this one off despite the Bloomberg’s growing bandwagon of support. Stay tuned.

About the NBDA website at www.nwbda.org, I think that the Riverdale Democrats have been using that site ever since they founded the club 4 years ago. It's the real deal. Besides, there was no pro-Bloomberg stuff on that site until last month.

The Northwest Bronx Democratic Alliance may speak for the Riverdale Democrats, but I bet that most New Yorkers feel the same as the NBDA does about Mayor Bloomberg on Election Day when they reelect him.

What the NBDA did was very brave and upstanding. Although I live in Throgs Neck, I intend to join the club and volunteer for NBDA campaign activities. I urge other Bronxites to join also. I like the nwbda.org web site since it is hard hitting and truthful. Cheers.

Finally, a Democratic club that levels with us. The Riverdale Democrats are smart to get in early on the Bloomberg campaign. In hindsight, I am sure it will be seen as a genius move that will reward the N.B.D.A. big time.

If you feel they way I do, send the NBDA a note of thanks & congratulations for coming out in support of Mike Bloomberg. Their e-mail address is nbda@msn.com.

What’s wrong with all of you. A Democrat MUST pick a Democrat even if the candidate looks like a loser. Otherwise our party will surely fail at the polls. Silly, silly!

Just wait until Bloomberg wins reelection and the NBDA gets to partake in the spoils of victory. The NBDA is well on its way to becoming the new power broker in Riverdale. If Bloomberg wins, you can be sure that the NBDA will have a big say in doling out local appoinments to city boards, committees and judgeships. Is that fair? Who cares? That's politics. Where do I get an NBDA membership application?

I have been a member of the Northwest Bronx Democratic Alliance for the last 3 years. I am so proud of our club's many civic and political activities. Naturally, I am thrilled that we endorsed the Mayor and I look forward to working on his campaign.

Down with Flip-Flop Freddy. Long Live the NBDA! Long Live Michael Bloomberg!

As a Riverdale resident, I admire Mike Bloomberg for what he's done to lower crime dramatically, to raise school test scores, and to usher in zoning changes to control over-development. Thank you Mr. Mayor. Thank you Riverdale Democrats for supporting him so openly and bravely.

I feel that if he was allowed to run in the Democratic Primary, Bloomberg would handily defeat the four main Democratic candidates. I doesn’t matter who wins the Democratic Primary since Bloomberg is sure to win in November. As for that NBDA Riverdale Democrat Club, it’s a smart move and perfect timing to be out front and leading the pack.
