Saturday: Partly to mostly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Highs around 80 degrees. Lows in the low 70s. [via WNBC]
Currently the weather isn't looking so great for tomorrow's Siren Festival. The image accompanying the forecast looks downright terrifying, but the actual forecast seems alright. We ain't scared of no thunderstorms!
Look at it this way, a little rain will thin the crowd out and make the lines shorter. Not to mention cool us all off. Now let's get to what really matters, the lineup. Here's our plan for the day...
Realistically, we won't arrive until 2pm. We learned our lesson from last year when we arrived very early and ended up falling asleep against a wire fence during Death Cab's set.
2pm: Ambulance LTD.
Not being fans of the Dears or Morningwood, we will most likely take part in the free beer tent for about an hour. This will be a mistake, but we won't find this out until we're drunk and passed out during Spoon at 7:30pm.
At 4 and 4:30 we have Q and Not U versus Diamond Nights. Tough call, we'll try to do both - fail - and end up watching whatever is closest.
5pm: Dungen, no question.
6pm: Brendan Benson and 7:30 Spoon.
Last year Gothamist got to meet Ben Gibbard. Will we get Britt Daniel to put his sweaty arm around us? Only time will tell. Stay tuned.

free beer tent? did somebody say free beer? EXPLAIN!
No question? Dungen Schmungen. Try to catch a little bit of Saul Williams. You won't regret it, I swear.
sorry for the confusion. free beer tent is backstage.
Jen, you should never tease a drunk like that.
stand in front and i will sneak you free beer!
I'm not gonna go. No thanks to those assholes in Chicago (Pitchfork), the lineup pretty much sucks anyway.
When the crowds get unbearable, don't forget that it's Mookie Wilson Bobblehead day @ the Cyclone's game!
See ya'll at the VHS / Beta set!
Also, don't forget.. this is one of your last chances to see Q and Not U before they disband.
Of course Death Cab does have the tendency to cause one to fall asleep, fence or no fence. You shoulda been over by the Trail of the Dead.
But that was then, this is now, bring on the Dears and Mates of State!
This year's lineup is simply fuckin' terrible. There is not one band I would pay money to go see, including Spoon. One more year like this and this festival is done, methinks.
Tom, my sentiments exactly. I can't get excited for this one at all. I'm going to skip it.
Worst lineup ever! Detachment Kit can be fun sometimes, Be Your Own Pet is overhyped bull. Diamond Nights are good. Other than that, who cares? Dungen was TERRIBLE at the Vice Party in October, maybe they have gotten better. Lotsa hippies will love that one for sure. And Spoon, cool I guess if you're getting off of work at the media planning agency hell you toil at.
As for Pitchfork stealing all the talent, do you have any proof? Who would have played Siren that is playing Intonation instead. DFA1979, Decemberists, Wrens, Hold Steady, BSS, Go Team? Um, who cares? DFA1979 is good, the others are BOOOORING! And I doubt the Voice would have had Pelican play.
diamond nights?? vhs or beta?? spoon?? what's with you people!!
Ambulance LTD? Generic crap. The Dears are the only band there worth checkin', although I'm sure their recent Bowery performance will be better than this slop fest. Anyone buy Arcade Fire tickets yet? I did!
It's somewhat reassuring to me that other people think the lineup is less than stellar. I was afraid I was finally getting too old for Siren Fest and its ilk. Then again, maybe I am too old and impatient to stand out in the sun all day...
Go to Central Park to see Kermit Ruffins tomorrow. He is awesome and is sure to be drunk.........
every year people say the lineup sucks. hatt seems to be the norm now. i don't think it's the greatest show or anything like that, but it's a free show and there are people that do want to see Spoon, Q and Not U, Dungen, etc. for free
what an incredible day. Best band: Morningwood for sure. they were incredible. She is a star.
Spoon was good too!
