Gothamist loved the NY Times article about how the new Commerce Bank in Chinatown has 7500 safe deposit boxes (while the usual branch will only have 500) because it basically tells people all they need to know about Chinese people:
- They like money
- They like safe deposit boxes
- They like feng shui
- They like dim sum
- They like the number 8
- Lion dances are essential
The article also notes that there will be many customer service representatives, but let's hope there's a lot of security: Commerce Banks have been the target of many robberies here in the city - it's because they are so darn friendly and don't have glass between the tellers and customers. Oh, and two years ago, NYC North Fork Bank handed over the contents of a woman's safe deposit box to her will's executor, even though she wasn't dead. Plus, we're still confused about why the toy airplane was in the safe deposit box that Kate needed to rob in Lost.

what i would like to know is how jen chung has enough time on her hands to do all this gothamist stuff, work a "real" job, and still watch so much friggin' TV! amazing.
"Jen Chung" is actually a composite character drawn from dozens of individuals, who was created by Jake to put a friendly face on gothamist.com.
I like money, dim sum, feng shui, Jennifer 8.'s articles, and lions. I also like General Tso's chicken, rice, and tea. So I might be Chinese.
(still waiting for the Times article where they profile Italians as big greasy assholes. That would put them over the top, surely)
The toy airplane was completely explained. Did you watch the entire season?
Basically, the toy airplane belonged to Kate's childhood boyfriend. They placed it in a time capsule when they were young. When Kate returned to her hometown while on the lam (for causing some unexplained family death?), she and the boyfriend dug up the time capsule. However, they soon ran into the police. And in the ensuing pursuit, the boyfriend was shot dead by the police, and Kate got away again. The federal marshall who was hunting Kate put the airplane in the safe deposit box, knowing that Kate would eventually try to get it because it had sentimental value for her. Kate eventually found out where the safe deposit box was, and through her feminine wiles got some guys to help her rob the bank. Of course, in the robbery attempt, the guys died and their deaths were pinned on Kate. The marshall eventually caught her in Australia. The two of them were in route home (with the toy airplane), when the plan mysteriously crashed on the island. Whew!
Just get the DVD when it comes out in Sept.
