White Castle: "Not a F-in' Restaurant"

There's this old maxim, "The customer is always right, even if the customer is crazy," but sometimes, employees just get mad. The Post says a Bronx woman is suing White Castle for $9 million after a counterwoman threw hot water on her. According to Carolyn Brennan's lawyer, Brennan tried trying to order an egg-and-cheese biscuit — without the biscuit — in 2002 at an upper Manhattan location, but the cashier, Tasha Adams, freaked out and said, "This isn't a f---in' restaurant!" See, in 2002, the Atkins diet was at its peak; that's when people thought that restaurants should have carbs totally separate from the proteins, since taking a biscuit off the egg-and-cheese might leave remnants of biscuit on it. Adams told to leave for the day, but reacted badly by allegedly saying, "I am going to hurt that woman!" and tried to throw hot water on Brennan, but another employee stopped her. However, when Brennan sat down, Adams seemed to have been able to fill another cup of hot water and threw it at her then. Brennan's lawyer is holding the chain responsible, since everyone heard Adams say she was going to "hurt" his client but did nothing to stop the second time. White Castle tells the Post that they are in the discovery phase of the case, but so far "there is no merit to her claim." Now, Gothamist is torn: This was a stupid request by the customer (let's rule out a gluten-allergy, because then she shouldn't have been there anyway) and clearly a bad reaction by the server...but Slyders are so good! I like White Castle, but the ones in Manhattan freak me out, it's an adventure everytime I try to go there.

white castle is disgusting! It's only good when you are totally famished or high on pot so you don't know any better. Ever try to eat a slyder when you are just a little bit hungry? It tastes like a paper towel full of grease slapped between 2 buns and deep freezed onions. the worst part is after you eat the stuff and you burp and the foul odors emanate.

Why is it a stupid request to tell them to hold the part of the food that you know you're not going to eat anyway, and that will just go to waste?

White Castle is best described as a Factory that mass produces Burgers. It's an aquired taste, but since it's open 24/7 (except for Christmas day) it's perfect after a Late night Movie or getting home after a few drinks.

What's weird is: If this did happen, why didn't the Cop's arrest Adams? ( as per the NY Daily News.)

Why wait so long to File a lawsuit? The people who worked there are likely gone.

I haven't been to a White Castle since I moved from Queens but I always loved the bullet proof glass. It's a touch of class.

A factory that mass produces burgers - as opposed to any other fast food burger joint?

I dunno. On the annual Fort Lee Hot Dog Walk last week

http://www.forgotten-ny.com/hotdogwalk/hotdog.html

a carb counting guy ordered his hot dogs at Hiram's sans buns, and didn't get water tossed in his face. He got his hot dogs without buns.

Of course, Hiram's is in New Jersey. Less 'tude with your fast food.

At least at White Castle you actually get hurt by employees and don't have to go through the process of staging an infraction, like that poor woman had to do with the finger in her Wendy's chili. White Castle's just keeping it real, way I see things.

1. if you are on a diet you should not be going to a fast food place.
2. the bun is there so that the hot grease of the "burger" does not leak out on the counter, burn the servers hands, etc.
Morons one and all

Having hot water thrown on you is all part of the White Castle experience.

It's got to be less painful than swallowing those "burgers".

Most fast food places are assembly lines nowadays. They barely do anything but take money and reheat the food. At this rate, we should be able to have a modern-age Automat. It can really all be mechanized...

Unless...

Unless fast food chains know what some "foodies" have already discovered. Sometimes people don't want to go out just to eat, but to have a good service experience on top of that. People willpay for service. But if you don't provide it, expect Robby the Robot to replace your employees.

This reminds me of the time I was coming into Brooklyn with my grandma from her house on Long Island and we stopped (heaven knows why) at a McDonald's in Bed Stuy. My old Jewish grandmother, not a regular McDonald's patron and standing out like a sore thumb in that particular location, ordered her Big Mac "medium rare." The cashier looked at her with a look somewhere between bewilderment and pity before calling the order into the microphone beside the register. She did not specify how the Big Mac was to be cooked.

Hey, if WC is good enough for Harold & Kumar, it's good enough for me.

Totally beside the point, but how little self-control do you have that you can't trust yourself to toss the biscuit in the trash when you get back to your table?

Why should someone with a gluten allergy not be there in the first place? Meat doesn't contain gluten.

And WC-burgers don't contain meat.

Please copyedit your stories.

I have tried WC cheeseburgers and I think they are great to bad we don't have a restaurant in Austin Texas, that will be good. Specially for people that work from 10pm-6am.

Thank god I'm in the Midwest. I have White Castles all over the place here. I think I'll go to one right now.
