Gas station turned B-Bar & Grill stands as both an old favorite and new discovery for Manhattanites in search of a spacious outdoor garden with traditional American bistro fare. Highlighted by the generous and playful garden, on summer nights when the city isn't drowning in rain, the B-Bar garden can be the perfect place for raw oysters and a beer.

B Bar and Grill is located at 40 East 4th Street (& Bowery) for brunch, lunch, dinner, and late night. (212) 475-2220.

Don't eat the shrimp ceviche. Worst shrimp I've had in my life including fast food fried shrimp. In general the restaurant is overpriced and horrendous (although the oysters aren't bad). I go to this place all of the time, however, because their garden is very nice.

Why would you eat shrimp anyway; they're underwater bugs. Unless of course you're into that sort of thing.

Even on a Thurday night, this place is packed with gel-haired dudes in flourescent polo shirts with the collars up. It's a douchebag's paradise.

i used to be a bus boy there. i just quit, actually. they made us wear bright orange shirts, which i wasn't a fan of.

check out the beginning section of brett easton ellis's novel "glamorama" for a hilarious look back at bowery bar when it was actually cool.

Rarely have I been treated as rudely as my experience was at B-Bar & Grill. On a recent Friday evening I had dinner there with 2 co-workers. We had some work to finish, so we edited documents as we ate and had our drinks. When the waitress asked if we'd like another round of drinks we said yes. Only problem was she took our drinks that were still 1/4 full, before we could stop her. After our meal, we continued to read as we finished our second round of beers. That's when the hostess approached us and said we'd have to give up the table if we weren't having dinner. The only reason she approach us was that we were reading, rather than having some boring conversation, like all the republican yuppies surrounding us. Others where taking much longer than us to eat their meal and enjoy their drinks, yet we were the ones who were told we didn't deserve the table. We were barely even offered an apology for this rudeness. The place was busy, but there were still other empty tables. I've worked in plenty of restaurants and try to be very conscious of the wait staff, but I found B-Bar's employee's to be a bunch of jack-asses, just like the clientele.

Sucks or not--I've had both experiences. I remember when people were totally freaking out about this lot turning into a bar/restaurant. I can only imagine those people stroking-out over the hotel on Rivington. Although, to be fair, the second a developer sets his sites on a certain low-level orange property on Great Jones St., I'm going to become a retro-Marxist-preservationist, despite my better instincts.
