Photoshop Fun for Fields

Every so often, Gothamist gets passionate emails from Christopher X. Brodeur, who is running for mayor, about Mayor Bloomberg being corrupt. And yesterday, Brodeur sent us something about how a flier that Manhattan Borough President C. Virginia Fields put together had Asians Photoshopped into it. As Gothamist had trouble opening the attachment and needed to rest up for the bid anticlimax that was the 2012 Olympics announcement, we had to wait for today's Post story with Fields's chief consultant admitting the whole picture was doctored:

Fields' chief consultant Joseph Mercurio said that the photo in the handout — "Virginia Fields, Democrat, a Mayor for All New Yorkers" — is actually four separate pictures that were melded together into one. Mercurio said the fake photo was intended to represent Fields' "inclusiveness."

The questionable picture features a rainbow coalition — two Asian-Americans, one Hispanic-looking man, one white male, three black males, one black woman and one white woman. The photo is made to look as if it were taken at a single event — a Fields press conference.

Nice catch, Brodeur! Updated: Reader Dave noticed that the NY Press actually broke the story first. Other Democratic candidate campaign staffers said things like "This is something that should have been caught, that should have been seen" and "You've made my day." This comes as one Democrat thinks Mayor Bloomberg is the "9-to-1 prohibitive favorite" to win the election.

New York magazine thinks Fields could beat Bloomberg - if she got a platform; plus, here's an interview that Gabe Pressman, one of Gothamist's favorite New Yorkers, did with Fields. And you might remember Mercurio from goofs as saying he didn't remember who Geraldine Ferraro is when Ferraro turned her support to Fields rival Fernando Ferrer.

Nice to know that Democrats can be just as Foolish as Republicans...

She doesn't have enough Photo opportunities? Nuts.

(sigh)
This is Yet another reason Why Mayor Bloomberg will win.

New York Press noticed Field's obvious photoshop job in last week's issue. I don't know which is worse, the lame photoshopping or the fact that the Post fails to credit the Press with breaking this story seven days ago. I guess everyone was on vacation.

NY Press had it last Wednesday, so what's the scoop from the Post or the News? Even the Politicker had it yesterday (also from Brodeur). Seems Gothamist is pretty slow on this you deserved to be fooled.

Brodeur's credit needs not be crossed out--he writes for the New York Press, so he very well may have been the one who wrote that blurb that broke the story.

I remembered that Brodeur wrote for the Press at one time or another, but I double-checked the paper's masthead and he's no longer listed as an editor or contributing writer. More than likely he fed this item to someone that he knew from his prior days and they published it uncredited. It should be the Post more than Brodeur who's embarassed by this.

Does Larry David know he's in the photo?

They should have added some hair and inserted a toothy smile to the Larry David character and maybe change the color of his suit to a seafoam green. Fields should be elevated about six inches. Larry David is dominating the picture here. very unprofessional photoshopping.

This is how the news works? C. Virginia Fields does lots of things (some bad, some good), and the big media story is that she used Adobe Photoshop??
...
Look, I've got problems with Fields (I'm running for Manhattan Borough President to replace her), but Adobe Photoshop is the least of it.

It's Not a Big Deal per se, but being under a Spot light of public Opinion, You'd think her staff would have a clue.

Can you Imagine her Opponents Sound Bites?
Mike Bloomberg's Spokesperson: "Here he is, Really in the presence of Asian People!"

BTW: You'd have my vote...

I was a steady writer for NYPress but Koyen and Zaitchik refused to put me on the masthead at any time.

The lie they gave me was "if we put you on the masthead we can't do any more stories on YOU"!!

Idiots.

And yes, the story was overblown, but since all the media was endorsing Bloomberg, they jumped at it and gave it massive, endless coverage to embarass Dems, who don't need any help humiliating themselves.
