Knicks Get Big

Isiah Thomas knew who he wanted with the eighth pick, the only question was whether or not he would get him. Luckily for Thomas, he was there and the Knicks selected Channing Frye, a move that immediately upgrades their non-existent frontcourt. Frye has a reputation of being a soft player, but Gothamist thinks he can be a Marcus Camby type player, hopefully without all the injuries.

The Knicks weren’t done as Thomas managed to get the 21st pick in the draft from Phoenix as part of the Quentin Richardson for Kurt Thomas swap. With that selection, the Knicks added Nate Robinson. Robinson is an explosive player, but the Knicks have a glut of guards and at 5’9”, Gothamist is worried that he will be able to matchup size wise in the NBA. With their last pick the Knicks took David Lee, a solid pick, but with Chris Taft still on the board, Gothamist would have preferred taking a chance on him.

The Nets had only one pick and used it to select Antoine Wright. Wright is a good shooter and should help the Nets immediately. Considering that many experts picked him to go higher, the Nets appear to have gotten a deal. If the Nets can add a big man and keep Jason Kidd healthy, they could battle Miami and Detroit for Eastern Conference supremacy.
