Tragic Crabbing Incident in

2005_06_crabbing.jpgA teenager almost drowned while crabbing with a friend in Brooklyn's Spring Creek. Alberto Cruz and a friend had managed to get a bucket of crabs in the creek, which is along the border of Brooklyn and Queens under the Belt Parkway, but was sucked into the muddy water. Cruz, who couldn't swim, was underwater, was recovered by emergency services, and is being kept alive by a ventilator. There are always a few tragic incidents of people drowning because they can't swim; we wonder if the city could do more to encourage people to take up offers for free swimming lessons at city pools.

Somehow I imagined "crabbing in Brooklyn" a little differently; like hooking up randomly on Bedford Ave.

From the dailynews: "...rescued Cruz, who nearly drowned in a pool last year during a Florida vacation, his relatives said.."

Um, you'd think if you 1) didn't know how to swim and 2) you had previously nearly drowned, that going crabbing in shoulder-high water would not be the smartest thing to do.
Not exactly the brightest bulb shining, eh?

I would never, ever eat anything that came out of Spring Creek, that place is literally toxic.
