Newsday had some photographs of various politicans at the Gay Pride Parade, and we stopped in our mouse-scrolling tracks when we saw this picture of Senator Charles Schumer. Gothamist thought it might be former Mayor Ed Koch, but it was actually our senior senator from Brooklyn! Now, aside from Chuck not having an aide make sure the Senator isn't posing in unflattering angles, we're concerned because he seems to have really let himself go (here's a photo from when he got married). Or maybe his suits are so impeccably tailored that they mask the middle age spread. Schumer is an avid bicyclist (though he doesn't wear spandex), so we're hoping he gets to bike a little more when Congress recesses for the summer. Maybe Marty Markowitz should bring back Lighten Up Brooklyn, the borough-wide diet program.

The only reason Schumer got elected in the first place is because of his striking resemblence to the Coney Island funhouse mascot. Voters subliiminally noticed this. Now that he has let himself go and looks less like the funhouse guy he will get taken to the cleaners in the next election. His habit of trying to regulate everything in existence is getting a bit tiresome anyway.
wherever hangnails threaten socks, chuck schumer will be there!
he looks a little faggy there. hands on the hips, with the rainbow flag looking like it;s sticking out of his pocket, pink shirt ....
He would definitely pass Looking like a Jewish Stereotype 101. Wouldn't it be cool if he were scandinavian or something so when someone asks "R U Jewish?" he can say "you racist bastard! why? cause I've got a heebish nose?" "Screw you, I'm scandinavian!"
Wow, a 55-year-old man who's gained some weight after 25 years of marriage -- that's NEWS!
Seriously, though, why is supposed to be so noteworthy? And why does this mean he's "let himself go"?
what poor intern had to do the research for this mediochre news item? it's trying to be funny, but it's just boring. i've seen much better and funnier content on this site.
This is newsworthy! Must be a slow week, nah!that's just terrible journalism.
c'mon - this is beneath all of us - and we have low standards to start with....
now who agrees with me that Chuck's NYC press secy, risa, is hot?
I was personally very shocked by this photograph.
Alright, for a weblog/online newspaper I guess Gothamist could make this post work. But, hey so he's a little overweight. I'm 26 and I admit I have a not for tv stomach. But I don't really care about my looks really LOL. They have never helped me get anywhere, anything or anyone. But like they say keep away from those carbs!
