Free Tonight: Stella & Wet Hot American Summer

1.jpg Tonight, Comedy Central presents a special pre-premiere screening of a full episode of Stella, featuring a live Q&A with Michael Ian Black, Michael Showalter, and David Wain (you’ve probably seen them plastered all over town), followed by the hilariously absurd summer-camp classic Wet Hot American Summer. Not only is this event free and provide complimentary Grolsch Premium swing-tops, but you'll also be able to finally scream "I want you inside me" at Showalter.

Screening begins at 7:00 PM and tickets will be available at the Anthology Film Archives box office starting 6 p.m. 32 Second Avenue (212) 505 - 5181

I don't know if Stella will be good or not, I'm willing to give it a try. But Wet Hot American Summer was one of the most unfunny movies I've ever seen. It wasn't "hilariously absurd." It sucked.

I'm a little offended by the "I want you inside of me" comment. Is that really necessary?

State = Overrated
Stella = Overrated
Wet Hot American Summer = Bafflingly Overrated

Would love to love you baby, but the hype is not worth it. Sure they are fun to hang out with, but they are not comedic gold.

BJ, I hope you're joking. If not, it's a line from the movie.

Also, to iloveabsurdity, I am very, very sorry. Have you tried watching it a second or third time? I thought it was marginally funny the first time, but absolutely hysterical the second.

This movie is as funny as crib death.

Thank God. I thought I was the only person who wanted to devour Michael Showalter whole. I'd been keeping it to myself for so long.

two tickets for the next showing of "crib death" please.

Six Feet Under is also free tonight; that is, if you have HBO. What a rockin' season it is.

I have to agree. "Wet, Hot, American Summer" was grossly overated. Not funny, sorry. But, if I'm correct a lot of the people from the State are also involved in Reno 911 which may be the funniest thing on TV until Arrested Development returns.

FYI...VICE magazine has released a free and hilarious City Guide and included in it is a free DVD of the first Stella episode. I watched it last night and there were some funny moments but overall it was sorta "huh- whatever." It doesn't help matters that Comedy Central has pasted and promoted the shit out of this show that it can't do anything but get backlashed. The VICE guide is far funnier than the episode. Good luck finding one...I found it at Brooklyn Industries on 5th Ave in Park Slope.

Speaking of VICE, knowing that its origins are in Montreal, it's funny how that city now represents a rather constant "don't" - I was there a few weekends ago and it was HILARIOUS. Have photos to prove it. Ironic that so many good bands come from there now.

"Too cool attitude"? Pfft.

Arguing that by one declaring Wet Hot American Summer "overrated" one represents a "too cool attitude" necessarily implies that the movie has had significant positive publicity by word-of-mouth from your "handful of people." Otherwise why would it be "too cool" to hate it? It's not like the naysayers are hating on Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever. If the movie had no critical acclaim and no commercial success then how would I have heard about it and why would I have seen it?

That's how it's overrated. A small bunch of fervent fans tell others how funny Wet Hot American Summer is, or recount lines from the film to you, etc...so then the recipients of these reviews rent the DVD, watch it and realize...hey...this movie sucks.

i had enormous hype from my friends before i had seen wet hot american summer, and when i watched it, i couldn't believe how funny it was. it's the sort of funny that drags you along in a trance, not causing you to laugh outrageously or really give anything than a snicker. but once the film's over, you realize how much humor you've passively soaked in from it.

stella is pretty funny in its own right, as well. the trio has great energy bouncing between themselves. check some of their videos out online.

Interesting to see the force of the reaction to those of us who LIKE WHAS.

A work of art, it's not. But for those of us who have more than a hazy recollection of the 70s and/or [Jewish] summer camps in the Poconos/upstate New York, it brings back some fond memories.

And how can you not like a movie that shows Chris Meloni doing something other than tracking down serial rapists or indulging in a little prison shenanigans himself?

Is it the film's intended lack of detached, ironic cool that keeps it off the Gothamist Readership-approved list?

It's only a movie...have some fun with it!

Just watched the first Stella episode. Reminds me of how years ago I wondered what these guys did for a Viacom Exec years ago to get the State on the air. If only those guys were as funny as they think they are.

OTOH, I really enjoyed Wet Hot American Summer...

I'm a little offended by the "I want you inside of me" comment. Is that really necessary?

Are you kidding me? Have you even seen wet hot american summer? I couldnt imagine going to a message board about something i havent even seen and getting offended by an 'injoke' used by the thread-starter. Where can i get the drugs that make you that stupid?

still searching for BJ_N_Haulway to verbally eviscerate. This thread post literally has rejuvenated my hatred for the mainstreamer-starbucks guzzling-suv driving-support our troops magnet wearing types. Really, i'm baffled. How did BJ_N find this board? What made him or her think anyone else would care if he/she was offended by that? Was she/he expecting the poster to apologize and withdraw the post? Why was someone on this message board who has clearly never seen the movie? All these questions and more i intend to eventually find out. Assuming that BJ_N isnt a bible thumping bush loving piece of garbage like i expect they will be. "i was a little offended by the "i want you inside of me" comment-- was that really necessary?" The depth of stupidity and ignorance in that statement is massive. BJ_N felt the need to share with us that she or he got a little offended. Seriously-- who gives a sh1t? Like honestly, if anyone here cares that BJ_N got her or his feathers in a ruffle because the mean man mentioned sex, i think i'm going to kill myself. Hey BJ_N, assuming you're not still under hypnosis; In the future, try not to come on message boards for something you dont know sh1t about, then expect people to give a flying fu*k that people were offended by your lack of understanding. I hope you drop dead.

are you all fucking insane? wet hot american summer is the greatest film ever, in the history of the universe. michael showalter is incredible, and all of you are wrong, wrong, wrong.
