NYC 2012 Olympics Bid Gets Rice

2004_04_olylogo.jpg

Secretary of State Condolezza Rice will be coming to New York next week to help NYC's 2012 Olympics bid. She'll be appearing at a rally at City Hall with Mayor Bloomberg, Governor Pataki, and colorfully dressed NYC 2012 volunteers and employees. Gothamist expects serious security, because this seems like a great opportunity for people to protest the Iraqi war and other international issues. Anyway, she is probably, we don't know, maybe the city's third choice, since President Bush declined to help the bid; we'd imagine the NYC2012 team made a push for the First Lady to come.

The city chosen for the 2012 Olympics will be announced on July 6 in Singapore. Given the time difference, we'll probably be finding out as we're getting over our July 4th weekend sun- and heartburn.
