Upcoming

CRAFTY CONSUMERISM: The Renegade Craft Fair is a DIY extravaganza which has only since taken place in Chicago. This weekend it sets up shop in Brooklyn with 150 vendors who will showcase and sell their one-of-a-kind handmade wares, including reconstructed clothing, comics, zines, jewelry, silkscreened gigposters, iPod cozies and more.
On June 25th and 26th in McCarren Park (Bedford Ave. & N. 12th St.) from 10:30am-5pm.

MUSIC: If you missed Ghostland Observatory this week, we're pretty sure you missed some of the more amazing moments in music that we've ever witnessed and we couldn't be happier that their first NYC show was our very own Movable Hype. They came and conquered NYC, and even made us all dance. Hopefully they'll do one more show in town before heading back to Austin, we'll keep you updated.
In the meantime, we swear we don't have blinders on - we can acknowledge there are other bands, so check out the New Pornographers and Stars (for FREE) at the bandshell in Prospect Park tomorrow evening, or any of the shows at the end of this post.

ART: The Porch Show is a group art show featuring too many artists to list and focusing on one of our very favorite things. The American front porch. We particularly love those porches in places like New Orleans, with the slow moving fans cutting through the heat of summer.
The exhibit embraces the ideals of community and the forgotten piece of American architecture as its meeting place.
Running through July 24th @ Cinders gallery [103 Havemeyer St. btwn Hope and Grand, Williamsburg]

PING PONG: That's right, there's a Ping Pong Tournament this Sunday to benefit the ABC No Rio Building Renovation Fund.
Stop by Sophie's Pub [East 5th Street between A & B] for a warm up at 5pm...it gets serious around 7. Individuals and teams of all playing levels welcome.

I hope I'm not tempting fate here.... but doesn't it strike anyone as strange that a Billy Graham Crusade and Gay Pride happening on the same weekend is scary and strange?

Perhaps strange, but not necessarily scary. Billy Graham has never been lumped in with those rabid Fundamoronists like Pat Robertson or Jerry Falwell. There is no "Cultural War" going on with this man.
