The Post has zeroed in on someone to blame for the Popsicle Melting Incident of '05, and they found someone with a huge target on his head: Advertising agency owner and "talk show" host Donny Deutsch. While Deutsch's agency helped create the promotion with Snapple, so the Post can't really blame just Donny, but they blast the headline "Guru Donny Behind P.R. Meltdown" and say that, "in a violation of one of the first principles of p.r., Deutsch attempted to cover up the slip-up yesterday with a bizarre news release cheerfully claiming the event was nothing but 'a great time.'" Yes, a great time for the FDNY and NYPD (who had to clean up and direct people respectively), the bikers who fell and slipped, and the people whose shoes were ruined! And a great time for us to marvel at how stupid some ideas are. What's the over-under on Snapple staying with Deutsch?
Fun advertising sites: AdRants, AdBusters, and Adfreak, which posted the Donny-in-a-Speedo picture.

when i worked at deutsch back in the mid 80's, they were pitching the saab account (i'm pretty sure it was saab). they rented one of those billboard trucks, painted the side of it like a brick wall, and parked it out in front of saab hq... the idea was something like "nothing will stop deutsch from selling saabs".
apparently the automaker didn't like the association with their cars and brick walls – the police were called and the truck was promptly removed.
This Snapple event obviously wasn't thought through. There are many rumors on how Deutsch is "slipping" lately. Guess his priorities aren't on his core business (in other words clients), although he probably makes lots of $ on his other stints. You can fault the client too for approving such an idea. Popsicle + hot sun = melting? No way!
Call me a sexist, but my answer is just take out the words "Says Popsicle Slush" and you have my answer!
I blame Donny Deutsch for the melting popsicle, the bungled cover-up, the loss of innocent lives and every other rotten thing that goes wrong in this city.
I'd say we should boycott his TV show in protest, but no one's watching that anyway.
Doesn't matter. He's really good-looking.
I was there!!! It just sickens me how many good people lost their lives in the Snapple disaster.
I'm always up for any excuse to make disparaging remarks about Donny Deutsch.
Can we please have a picture of DD with his shirt off?
Snapple pulled the post from there site
