Yankees Streak to Six

2005-06-smussina.jpgIn a season of ups and downs, the Yankees are up again. Sunday, they beat the Cubs 6-3 to complete a three game sweep and run their winning streak to six games. The Cubs have lost all seven games they have ever played at Yankee Stadium.

Mike Mussina did not have his best stuff, but he battled through six and a third innings, giving up two runs before turning the game over to the bullpen. The Cubs looked like they would make a game of it when they loaded the bases in the seventh inning with one out, but Nefi Perez grounded into a double play to end the threat.

The Yankees now face the Devil Rays in a four game series. Tampa Bay has been in turmoil, with manager Lou Pinella recently criticizing ownership for failing to spend money to acquire talent. Tampa took three of four from the Yankees in May and this will be an excellent opportunity to exact revenge. After the Devil Rays visit, the Mets will return to the Stadium for the second half of the Subway Series.
