Crime Roundup

- Last night, police were investigating the death of a Midtown apartment building doorman who was found murdered near his subway station in Queens, apparently on the way home. Today, it was announced that two suspects were arrested in the murder of Arshad Mahmood. One theory is that one of the suspects thought Mahmood was having an affair with his wife. Mahmood usually drove to work until his license was suspended, so he took the train to work; his brother told Newsday, "He felt very very comfortable in the train. He was a New Yorker. But we have to ask ourselves what if he were driving instead."

- After almost two months of questions, police confirmed that the body of a missing college student was found in the Hudson, near the 79th Street Boat Basin. Patrick Welsh, a college student at York College in Maryland, had last called friends in mid-April, saying he would be staying with some friends at Columbia, spookily enough, the Times reported, "But no one there remembered seeing him." Then his cellphone was found with a homeless man, who was later ruled out as a suspect, and others said Welsh was seen at a Ratdog concert at the Beacon Theater. Police aren't sure how long the body was in the water, but they do think Welsh's death was accidental, though an autopsy is still pending.

There are about 600 annual murders in NYC. Is it really necessary to have every run-of-the-mill murder listed here? (Sorry for sounding cold.) This material is stuff that local 11-o'clock news is made of. It's on par with "Is your drinking water is safe?-News at eleven" or "What your boss may be hiding from you--News at eleven."

Gothamist, keep posting what you want to post.

Actually, I would say a murder that has been on the front pages of MSNBC, CNN amd FOXNews as major. There was a press release put out to find this young man a few months ago and it was National news.
