Open Bar?

2005_06_ask_openbar.jpgRecently, I went to a gathering at a bar on Long Island where my friend held her birthday. We each paid $20 to get an "open bar" bracelet (as a member of the birthday girl's party). My birthday is coming up soon, along with 3 friends' birthdays, and we were interested in doing the same thing - not on Long Island, but in a bar in NYC. Know any places that do such?

New York Magazine just posted a list on their website of bars that have unlimited drinks specials in NYC, helpfully sorted by night of the week. All of the bars listed are in Manhattan and Brooklyn, and all have some type of open bar deal for $20 or under. Of course the hours and type of alcohol offered vary from place to place, but we think you'll be able to find something in this list that suits your needs.

You should check out Eat, Drink & Be Merry at www.privatepartyrooms.com. They're also listed on citysearch.com. They are party planners for several bars in NYC and you can have either a main bar party for $20 a person for three hours or a private room with an open bar for three hours starting at $25. I just used them for my boyfriend's birthday and they were great!

You can pretty much call up any bar/club/lounge and tell them that you are planning to have a party. Ask them what deals you can get if you bring xyz people before 9 or 10pm. If the night is pretty quiet, you may be able to get an hour or 2 open bar or discount drinks or whatever.

They usually want to get more people in to start the night on a typically quiet hour

Newgate Bar & Grill does 2 great all you can drink nights too! It's on the corner of Bleeker & Laguardia, and has an outdoor space, and some of the friendliest bartenders in the village!

Wednesday: 10$ all you can drink 10-12
Thursday: 20$ all you can drink 10 till close

Johnie is right, I've had birthdays at a variety of bars that way. Choosing a slow night early in the week makes the scheme more appealing to the bar too.
