We've all been waiting for the Village Voice Siren Fest '05 lineup here at Gothamist HQ. And finally, the first big names are being released (even thought the site hasn't been updated as of yet):
The Village Voice, the nation's largest alternative weekly newspaper, is excited to announce the initial line-up for the 5th Annual Village Voice SIREN MUSIC FESTIVAL(tm) at Coney Island on Saturday, July 16th from 12:00 noon - 9:00 p.m. Scheduled performers include Spoon, Mates Of State, Brendan Benson, VHS Or Beta, Dungen, Q And Not U, and The Dears, with many more to be announced.
We look forward to seeing who else joins the lineup. Anyone have any predictions? (We've heard people guess that Dinosaur Jr and Arcade Fire will join...we can only hope they're right).
In the meantime, we're working on a guide to free summer music so stay tuned for that. We'll also be announcing the lineup for Movable Hype 3.0 soon. It's June 20th at the Knitting Factory main space, so save the date!

Finally!
Village Voice... Alternative?? Please.
my friend's brother's college buddy's dog walker said maybe ryan adams.
oh nevermind, the dog walker was talking shite.
boomsalon.com has a pretty cool listing of free events:

Remind me to remember that while I love Coney Island and will get out there several other times this summer, that I'm too smart, too short, and--at 30--too damn old to stand out in the hot sun on my tiptoes straining to see/hear above the clamor. Not to mention how BAD the crowd smelled last year. It was as if not bathing was the new black. I must be an indie-yuppie. That means I have a job--gasp!--I can buy a ticket to a real show if I want.
Maybe this year they can get the PA to sound better than a feral cat jumping around inside a wet cardboard box.
Dungen: yay! Everyone else: yawn.
i've been waiting to see dungen. despite the fact i have no idea what they're singing about, their album from last year rocks!
Boring! Dungen was TERRIBLE during CMJ at the Vice Party and the rest of those bands are a snooze fest as well.
After getting beer spilled all over me not once, twice, but THREE times at the past Siren Festivals, I just can't attend this year. Where are the crazy rockers?
I disagree, Q And Not U is fun, and The Dears are great.
If you guys aren't there, I might go.
Vice party? You have to be shitting me.
Someone spilled beer on someone during an outdoor music show? Where the heck is Letitia Baldridge when we need her.
I think the MTA should fine anyone who spills beer at an outdoor show ... er wait a minute wrong thread.
The Dears rock. Wasn't this festival originally about estrogen power?
So they announced three more bands, or so it was printed in the Village Voice. Ambulance LTD. who are so so so so boring, Morningwood who tear it up and will probably be remembered as the best band to play this years festival, and The Diamond Nights who while i don't know if I have heard them, all my friedns tell me that they are so bad it hurts and to avoid them like the plague. The line up seems to be pretty weak when all is said and done. Maybe there are too many other festivals to compete with now.
I haven't been up to anything today. I don't care. I've just been staying at home not getting anything done. Basically not much happening right now. Maybe tomorrow. I guess it doesn't bother me.
