Yankees Sweep the Tigers

The Yankees and Alex Rodriguez will be sorry to see Detroit leave town. Three games, three victories, the last one courtesy of a go-ahead home run by A Rod in the fifth inning. For the series, Rodriguez went 5-8 with 3 homers and six RBI’s. Not a bad start to the week.

Kevin Brown continued his resurgence, pitching seven innings for his fourth straight win. Since getting bombed by the Devil Rays on May 6th, Brown has gone 4-0 with an ERA of 2.16. Gothamist isn’t ready to trust Brown after last October, but perhaps he has finally turned a corner.

The Yankees now head into a weekend showdown with the Red Sox. As the Yankees have gone 15-2 over their last 17 games, critics have pointed to the quality of their competition. The Red Sox have just been swept by the Blue Jays and are currently a half game behind the Yankees, but they remain a dangerous and very talented team. Tim Wakefield will oppose Randy Johnson on Friday with Matt Clement facing Carl Pavano on Saturday and David Wells facing Mike Mussina to close out the series Sunday night.
