Correction: the blog in Chicagoist is "Get Your Beach On." "On the Beach" is, of course, the Gregory Peck/Ava Gardner movie classic. Regardless, I still maintain that there are no sharks in Lake Michigan, only 124 lb. catfish.

Very appealing beach photo. Too bad there's nothing even remotely like that around here. And that includes The Hamptons.

BTW the Chicagoist has a picture of a scary shark head with fangy teeth to accompany THEIR beach article entitled (of course) "On the Beach." Since when are there sharks in Lake Michigan? (Maybe 124 lb. catfish, but not sharks.)

Can you get away with saying there are ocean beaches in NYC? Technically, Orchard Beach in Pehlham Bay Park is only on Long Island Sound. The Coney Island, Brighton, and Manhattan beaches on the Coney Island peninsula are close to the ocean, but still only face Lower New York Bay. Rockaway Beach, however, definitely fronts on the Atlantic Ocean. I don't know how good the surfing is at any of these spots, but there are a few beaches in the boroughs.
