Had the mussels at markt. They were either rubbery or dry and mealy, like over-cooked chicken liver. Couldn't finish them. Thought about sending them back, but couldn't find our waiter and the place was less than half empty. Sorry, sitting there on the corner, I say it's a tourist trap in the very hot meat packing district.

I agree with MT regarding the stew. Delicious. I haven't been there since the winter so I'm not sure if it's the same. It is a little strange sitting on the sidewalk next to rolling trucks but the sandwiches and the stew were well worth it.

Markt's great, but I gotta say they have been in a decline. I used to look forward with overly-intense enthusiasm to going to Markt for their Belgian Beef Stew and would drag along anyone who was within reach. But in the last year my friends and I have noticed that the food is not up to the quality it was say three years ago, and we've since jumped ship for Cafe Bruxelles down on Greenwich Ave. It's not as cool as Markt, but it's homey and you can't beat the food.
