Burt Reynolds Bitchslaps Newsbitch

2005_05_longestburt.jpgThere's something about macho men acting nuts when being interviewed about football. Joe Namath was extremely bizarre a few years ago when ESPN's Suzy Kolber spoke to him during a Jets game, with Namath saying he wanting to kiss her. And last night, Burt Reynolds slapped a CBS assistant producer during the Chelsea premiere of The Longest Yard. Watch the video here, and you'll see Reynolds get steamed at the hapless producer who admitted he didn't see the 1974 original. Damn Paramount for not screening the original! And the producer was dumb enough to tell the truth - when you're on the red carpet talking to celebs, you've gotta vamp and make up stuff or else they'll take their fame out on you! While his spokesman says Reynolds "playfully tapped (the producer) on the cheek, as if to say, 'Well, that's not very nice,'" and was "kidding," but if that's a playful tap, then Gothamist will never make fun of his hair to his face or mention how boring Evening Shade was ever.

There's no official statement on Reynolds' official website.

Weird. It's one thing if Burt Reynolds actually Knew the guy, but this was a bit over the top...

I bet it blows over as no big deal.

Too bad Reynolds didn't decide to slap him on the ass instead, because as I read here earlier this week that's perfectly cool in the eyes of the law.

not too surprising, given the repeated slaps burt gave dom deluise in outtakes from cannonball run.

You don't mess with the Burt Reynolds Man.

When city councilman Allan Jennings threw a metallic object at a Channel 5 reporter early this year, it was put on air, but apparently neither WNYW or the reporter pressed charges.

Apparently, it's in these guys' job descriptions to take as much shit as possible and not fight back.

CBS fired Arthur Chi'en for reprimanding some Opie and Anthony hecklers, he cursed when he thought the camera was off.

I suppose with the salaries they make, abuse is part of the package.

"And last night, Burt Reynolds lapped a CBS assistant producer during the Chelsea premiere of The Longest Yard."

Burt Reynolds lapped her?? Wow, he must be a really fast runner!

Burt looks like marionette Virgil Tracy from "Thunderbirds".

I looked at the video and burt's obviously joking around with the guy. It's hilarious to see ernie anastas talking about it like it was a murder report or something. The CBS reporter is a pussy for even causing a fuss about it. I think ernie anastas should be given a slap too. and so should anyone who hasn't seen the original "longest yard." That was a good picture.

I agree with Bob Denver, it looks like Burt was just joshing.

Must have been a slow news day...

Good thing the producer did see Cannonball Run II. Burt might have put his boot in his ass.

Here's a link to the original "longest yard" poster. It describes burt as "at his most virile." It also features a bizarre style of pants that hadn't been seen before or since.

"I agree with Bob Denver, it looks like Burt was just joshing."

For some reason, that strikes me as a great sentence right there.

I saw this thing last night - IT IS SUCH BULLS**T!!! It is SUCH a phoney non-story being built up to hype the movie (that isn't supposed to be that good).

Reynolds was CLEARLY kidding (he's 1/2 smiling the WHOLE TIME) and the 'smack' was a an OBVIOUS joke. AMERICA IS A BUNCH OF LOSERS AND CBS SHOULD BE ASHAMED FOR MAKING THIS 'NEWS'

DID I MISS SOMETHING? WWAS ERNIE ANASTAS FIRED?
