Police Still Looking For Reckless Car Driver

The police investigation to find the driver of a white Jaguar that pinned a woman against the Sheepshead Bay subway entrance is continuing. The woman had been standing beneath the elevated train tracks when the car jumped the curb and backed into her. Her left leg was so badly injured that it was amputated in surgery. The car was found abandoned on East 17th Street, between Avenues X and Y; witnesses say a woman and a stocky bald man fled the car. This is just a terrible, horrible, crazy accident: You're just standing there and this happens.

While this was certainly "terrible, horrible, crazy", it was no "accident". This and similar incidents of cars winding up on sidewalks are due to the utter carelessness & disregard of drivers to those around them and the lack of accountability by our legal justice system.

Looks like they got the driver.

This infuriates me so much I'd like kidnapping charges against the driver too. The alleged perp moved the woman against her will.

It was obviously Elaine and George who fit that description...

But seriously, I hope they find the two creeps who did this and then make them saw off their own leg a la Mad Max...

IMO, "Reckless Car Driver" is an understatement. I'm hardly a lawyer, but For the driver to do this may be reckless (A stretch, to me) but fleeing after several people helped this poor woman is criminally negligent.

I hope that woman recovers as best as she can.

I keep wondering: what is the appropriate punishment or restitution for people who are careless or stupid or lazy and do something that effectively ruins another person's life forever?

This incident on end up being classified as an "accident" (maybe)...but often an accident is because of someone's inattention or laziness. And what is the appropriate restituion then?
