2005_05_artsmajreport.jpgEVENT: The Tank is the latest in New York club casualties. This weekend they're trying to raise money for a new venue, so head over to one of these events or donate online here.
Tonight at 7pm / $10
Air America's The Majority Report with Janeane Garofalo and Sam Seder will broadcast live from The Tank, which it also did during the Republican National Convention. This time the broadcast includes a live studio audience and guest Tim Robbins.

Tomorrow night at 9pm (to dawn) / $10($5 after 1am)
The Wrecking Ball: "Please join us for our final night ever on 42nd street. We will laugh. We will cry. We will break shit. We will personally get super f*cking drunk."
With Tank Favorites: Bishop Allen, We Are Scientists, The Teeth and DJ Orion

MUSIC: Tonight @ Bowery Ballroom NY2LON launches in New York with a show featuring: Amusement Parks on Fire, The Ordinary Boys, The Hong Kong and the Ligers. We think it's okay to tell you now that the Ligers are really Stellastarr*. Tickets are still on sale, $15.
Of course there is plenty more and this post covers it all.
Last night we checked out Village Voice coverboys The Hold Steady for their amazing cd release show. They mentioned they'll be shooting a video for Your Little Hoodrat Friend this weekend. If you want to be in it, BrooklynVegan has the details.

MOVIE: Check out some old Hollywood this weekend. There are a few classics playing around town. First up is Dr. No, the 1962 Bond favorite, playing tonight at 8:30pm @ the MOMA [11 W 53rd St. at Fifth Ave.]
Then The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, Sergio Leone's western classic, is playing Sunday at 4 and 8pm @ BAM Rose Cinemas [30 Lafayette Ave and Ashland Pl, Bklyn]

COMEDY: The Whitest Kids U Know take over Pianos this Sunday for a night of sketch comedy...most likely performed in front of the other whitest kids you know. Be there by 8pm to make sure you catch all the funny.

THEATER: There Goes the Neighborhood. Four years, dozens of interviews, and hundreds of conversations after first moving to Smith Street, a one-woman show has emerged. Based on the words and views of the people of Carroll Gardens, the show offers an insider's look at the phenomenon of gentrification in New York City.
Running through May 29th at PS 122 [150 First Ave.] / $15 / Saturday @ 8pm and Sunday @ 5pm.

  • I'm on Blind Date tonight at 1AM. Everybody should stay home and watch that. Or come out to Bar Matchless in Williamsburg and watch it with me.

The First Annual Huron Pier Invitational Boat Launch & Bar-B-Q sounds sort of interesting, if it doesn't rain.

Maybe if every single Air America listener turns up they can raise $20 or so.

    What's more evil-

Ticketmaster's $7.50 fees or the butchering of KOL's music by Roseland's soundsystem?

FYI...Kings of Leon announced a show tonite at Roseland. Tix went on sale on evil Ticketmaster today at 10pm.
