The "Other" Bubbly

When the weather turns warm (finally!) Gothamist heeds the cooling call of tiny bubbles. Champagne? Heck, no!

Brewsky.

2005_05_food_beer.JPGThere's nothing like downing a beatiful, frosty mug of ale, lager or weisse on a warm spring afternoon or evening. And, here's our list of some of New York's finest spots to grab said brewsky - with extra points given to Spuyten Duyvil, The Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden and d.b.a. for their outdoor spaces:

Yeah, Chumley's! Would also add The Kettle of Fish in Sheridan Square (amazing jukebox) and the Brazen Head on Atlantic Ave (another nice garden).

does anyone know if theres a place to get Tsing Tao beer on tap in the city? Its in my top 5 favorite beers in a bottle, and have always wondered what it would taste like on tap...

user-pic

Chumley's is great, but moreso for a sit-down dinner. I think dba outshines all of these places as a bar for beer (and notably whiskey).

the bohemian hall & beer garden wins, hands down. it's the perfect place to drink outdoors in the summer.

user-pic

do they even make tsingtao for a tap? i've never even seen it when i visit china.

user-pic

i dont know, but i have fantasized about it many times. i have seen tsing tao beer trucks doing their rounds in the city and wondered if they had any kegs inside.

user-pic

How about a Gothamist Movable Drunks Pub Crawl?

user-pic

That's a pretty lame fantasy; I can think of many more exciting than a Tsing Tao beer truck...

One is a fountain of Knob Creek in a local park. For those unaware, this is a bourbon - not a homosexual innuendo.

user-pic

I'll bet Tsing Tao wouldn't taste any different on tap than in a bottle anyway... the reason that domestic beers taste different on draught is that they don't pasturize the kegs, which therefore have to be kept cold, while the bottles are pasturized so that they can be sold warm... but beer that's imported from overseas is generally pasturized no matter if it's in a bottle or a keg. So just ask them to pour it into a glass for you before they serve it and pretend!

You need to add Loreley to your list.

MOVABLE DRUNKS PUB CRAWL!

yes, please!

user-pic

whatever dude, my fantasy isnt any more lame than yours, and its much much less gay. Suck on knob in the park as much as you want, i will continue to dream of my frosty pint of tsing tao. and Will, i appreciate your insight, but there is a difference between draught and bottle beer, even when they are imported and pasteurized. one of my other faves is newcastle and it is even better on tap than in a bottle.

user-pic

Let's see who's more gay, you drink Chinese (!) beer and I drink bourbon.

user-pic

here are a bunch of jolly folks who like bourbon...

and what are you trying to say, Chinese beer is gay? a billion of us would beg to differ, Knoblover

user-pic

Link not found. Learn to link, gay beer drinker.

Let's see your intelligent logic: a billion Chinese, so a billion Chinese beer drinkers. Nice! Finish grade school yet?

I'll think of you next time I pi*s a cheap Tsingtao down the toilet.

heres your link, homo:

http://www.bourbonpub.com/

and everyone knows real men drink scotch. old ladies and sissies drink bourbon.

and tsing tao brewery was founded by german missionaries, you ignorant self righteous a**hole.

I'd like to third that Movable Drunks suggestion.

Sacrilege you guys forgot to mention
corner bistro on the west side - west 4th street I think. CB is also then best place for 2 dollar Mcsorley's, not to mention one hell of a burger.

Both TsingTao and McSorley are crap beers! TsingTao is pretty much the Miller of China. McSorley is just another filthy sh*thole in the city.

The judge who put coded messages in his Da Vinci Code plagiarism trial ruling has written another...
