The New York Song MP3

2005_05_earplugs.jpgThe Politcker got an exclusive with the MP3 of the new New York theme song. Listen here and wonder when a multicultural cast of dancers will pop out from behind your cubicle walls. The Politicker notes:

The ambitious anthem, with lyrics by Jack Murphy, is destined for national airtime on television commericals, in remixed adaptations that may include rap, salsa, and country western.
NO!!!! Please, P. Diddy, we know you love remixes, but don't sample this. Please? And Gothamist on the New York song and its lyrics.

    A "Double-header at Shea..."

Okay, outside of a rainout makeup, when was the last time there was a double-header at Shea?

  • I know it's already been said, but...he really does say "New Yorrr-uk"

and they left out asians too. They should add "it's a rickshaw ride to the top, it's a delicious ramen noodle shop."

  • OMFG... OK, I'm about twenty seconds into this and I can't stop laughing out loud. What a huge steaming wedge of fromage. And am I the only one who thinks it rips off the theme that News4 New York tried to throw up right after the eleventh?

I bet if we try hard enough we could come up with ten better NYC songs than this vomit-flavored treacle...

    Back in the NY Groove?

    New York, New York?

I Happen to Like New York?

    It's a Helluva Town?

    I'm sure there's more...

I like the way he phrases "New Yoooo Ork." The only way this could be better is if it was sung by bob goulet. I feel a little left out though. He mentions jews with the "bagel and a schmeer" reference and italians with the "waiter named Tony" line. I would like a line added like "new york, it's a goy paradise with a side of pork."

  • It sounds exactly like the "Capital City" song Tony Bennett sang when the Simpsons visited aforementioned city. But this version sucks to high heaven because it's real. Save this junk for the credit roll of the next Nora Ephron project; leave NYC alone!

    "There's a swingin' town I know called...

    Capital City

People stop and scream hello in...

    Capital City!

It's the kind of place that makes a bum feel like a king.

It's against the law to frown in

    Capital City!

You'll giggle like a stupid clown

When you chance to see 4th street and D!

Once you get a whiff of it, you'll never want to roam,

From Capital City, my home sweet swingin' home"

  • All well and good, but does anyone know how to get a hold of the frightening Steinway Street shopping advert that's been running on NY1? Now that's horrid.
