Episode III: Revenge of the Line-Up Nerds

If you’re not already overwhelmed by Star Wars’ promotional madness, including the Times Square Toys-R-Us Star Wars aisle and a relentless commercial campaign (M&M’s M-pire’s new “dark side” candy, Chewbacca grunting for Cingular, Yoda using the Force to snatch a Pepsi, or Darth Vader battling a boy armed with a Kellogg's cereal SaberSpoon), then see die-hard fans geeking out in the Star-Wars Stand-a-Thon. Camped outside Ziegfeld's theatre on 54th, this wait-in-line marathon raises money for the Starlight Starbright Children's Foundation, a nonprofit will helps severely ill children and their families. These eager movie-goers have less than 10 days until the opening of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and Gothamist can only hope Triumph the Insult Comic Dog will interview them as he hilariously did once before.

While logic tells us Episode III will be as painfully disappointing as the last two film chapters, many critics have applauded Lucas's latest effort, even comparing it to A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. The movie premieres next Thursday, May 19th, at midnight and most NYC theatres are offering several 12:01 AM shows. If you’re interested in buying tickets online, most digital projection theatres, like Loews Kips Bay, have already sold out, but you can still catch a Loews stadium seating.

Visit Fandango & Moviefone for available showtimes, or head to the Ziegfeld to join, as Entertainment Weekly described, "the band of rebels agitating for a bona fide movie experience."

The stormtroopers kind of look like the cows in the "Cows Are Coming" ad.

Sweet; can't wait. Witnessing Vader's coming into existence will erase so much of that pent up childhood anxiety. Maybe I can be at peace with myself and quietly transition to the dark side.

I'm also really excited. We get to see a young Chewbacca and visit the Wookiee planet!

user-pic

I just hope a young Chewey isn't as cheesy as Jar-Jar. He can be cute; just not have a Jamaican accent.

I'm old enough to remember the promotional madness when the first three movies came out. I used to have burger king star wars drinking glasses....

user-pic

YES! I remember those glasses very well. Still have my collection of figures. Used to do house chores and yard work and that would be my payment instead of an allowance. What a nerd.

Well, articles about "Sith" claim that you shouldnt be fooled by the Chewbacca clip in trailers - that Chewbacca is barely in any scenes and doesnt talk much. Its probably better that way. There'd be a jihad against Lucas if he ruined Chewy.

Well, at least they're geeking it up for a good cause.

And if you want to see Chewie *really* ruined, then get a copy of the god-awful Star Wars Christmas Special (which features Bea Arthur among others).

Has anyone actually found somewhere in the NYC area to buy the aforementioned "dark side" M&Ms? I've been looking for several days.

I like to go up along the line of nerds, and say "Nanu Nanu" to all those waiting in line. I suggest we all do it.

I brought like 5 tickets for the 1:10am May 19th show at AMC 25's Empire Theater. The theater is gonna be digital projection for the most INTENSE theatrical experience known to man.

And then we're all gonna dress up in Star Wars Outfits and live it up with my fellow dweebs.

Its gonna be Wicked Awesome. And by awesome I mean totally sweet.
