Chasing Storms

liberty.jpgThe storm that the Weather Service and Gothamist thought would soak us over the weekend went a bit further east than expected and left us pleasantly dry. The storm is still out there churning away but it poses no threat to us. Instead high pressure is in charge and it's giving us a beauty of a day. Our first near-normal temperature day in almost two weeks. Tomorrow should be a repeat. Warmer Wednesday and Thursday with a chance of thunderstorms on the former.

Speaking of thunderstorms, while out for a walk last night Gothamist happened to notice that Mark Svenvold, author of "Big Weather: Chasing Tornadoes in the Heart of America" will be giving a reading from the book tomorrow night at the McNally Robinson bookstore on Prince St. We know nothing about Mr. Svenvold or the book other than McNally Robinson's description that he "spends a month with a colorful cast of tornado chasers driving thousands of miles across Oklahoma and Nebraska searching for thunderheads. It’s a compelling mix of high-tech fetishism and barnstorming entertainment."

High-tech fetishism and meteorology? Gothamist is so there!
