Steinbrenner Loses Again

As if George Steinbrenner's Yankees losing all those games wasn't enough, the Yankee principal owner had to endure another loss yesterday at the Kentucky Derby. Steinbrenner's horse Bellamy Road was the 5-2 favorite and looked a shoe-in for victory. Yet, much like the Yankees, Bellamy Road lost to the 50-1 long shot, Giacomo. Giacomo is the 2nd biggest long shot to win in Kentucky Derby history after Donerail in 1913 who paid $184.90 for a $2 bet (Giacomo paid $102.60).

Bellamy Road's trainer, Nick Zito, had five horses in the race, but none finished higher than the favorite who eventually finished in 7th. The Brooklyn born Zito was trying to win the 3rd Derby in his career.

Closing Argument (71-1) placed and Afleet Alex (9-2) showed. The trifecta of Giacomo, Closing Argument and Afleet Alex paid a whopping $133,134.80.

What's next for Steinbrenner? Buy a better horse? At least the Yankees aren't in last anymore.
