Get Your SubwayService Advisories Email

2005_05_subwayemail.jpg

Hurry! Go to the MTA's Subway Service Advisory E-mail Notification Pilot page and sign up to get emails from the MTA about what service issues there will be on the weekends. Yes, just like knowing the L train will be out for every weekend in a month! In the future, the MTA hopes to email people about sudden service issues, but it's all about the baby steps, people. Only 10,000 people can enter this pilot program. Gothamist will take a look at what we get from the MTA, maybe slap it up on Gothamist or at least provide a review or whether this works well.

And the NY Times has a Public Lives feature on MTA Chairman Peter Kalikow: He talks about his ultimately successful ownership of the NY Post ("It was murder"), his love of Ferraris, and how he promises to fix the $400 million budget deficit by 2008, but his term ends in 2006. Mmm...Chairman Kalikow, you might have thought this humanized you, but now we're just more suspicious. To paraphrase the great film, Married to the Mob, watch your ass, Peter. Watch your ass.

I thought the 9 was gone. Who knew?

I've been getting this info from straphangers.org for a couple years now. . .

Speaking of subway alerts, what was going on on the Manhattan Bridge this morning. All the trains were crazy delayed.

What I'm interested in is whether the MTA will be able to do alerts of suddenly occuring incidents...

Disorient Express has formatted RSS feeds of Subway Service Advisories for quite awhile.

Need you ask that, Jen? This is the MTA we're talking about here. We'll see how well they do in keeping riders informed of even weekend service changes.
