Tonight: TINA! Bring me the axe!

Tonight, the absurd 1981 cult classic Mommie Dearest, an over-the-top account of actress Joan Crawford, who creatively and brutally abused her two adopted children, plays at the Clearview in Chelsea.

Set as a tell-all drama based on Crawford's daughter’s memoir, Faye Dunaway‘s exaggerated and intense Crawford is quite possibly one of the most disturbingly psychotic and unintentionally hilarious characters. From those creepy eyebrows to her midnight need to destroy rose gardens, Crawford is an obsessive-compulsive villain which you almost can’t help but laugh at, which is why this film was never taken too seriously. While Gothamist does not find child abuse inherently funny, we can definitely appreciate a film which made “no wire hangers!” a household phrase. Movie Clip (via Bad Movies)
