Yankees Drop Third in a Row

Randy Johnson made one mistake Friday night, hanging an 0-2 fastball to Eric Hinske in the seventh inning of a scoreless game. Hinske pounded it over the right field wall and Blue Jays’ ace, Roy Halladay made it last, defeating the Yankees 2-0 while pitching a three hitter. Since scoring twelve runs against the Angels on Tuesday, the Yankee offense has gone into hiding, managing only two runs over three games.

The Yankees have now dropped three straight games and are 5-6 since owner, George Steinbrenner, declared that enough was enough. At 9-14, the Yankees are assured of their first losing record in April since 1991 and they currently sit 6 1/2 games behind the first place Orioles. Manager, Joe Torre, continues to tinker with his lineup to try and spark the offense to no avail. One has to wonder, how long will it be before more drastic changes are made to the teams’ personnel?

The Yankees continue their homestand against the Blue Jays today and Sunday with rookie Chien-Ming Wang making his major league debut followed by Carl Pavano. After that, it is off to Tampa, home of the aforementioned George Steinbrenner for four games against the Devil Rays. Mr. Steinbrenner always attends the games in Tampa and you can bet on changes being made if the Yankees haven’t turned things around by next weekend.
