Umbrellas on Alert

Even though there are supposed to be some breaks in the rain today, Gothamist is not taking any chances and we're toting our umbrella with us everywhere. We're using a pretty non-descript, navy blue manual umbrella, but if we had our druthers, we'd be using this fantastic Spongebob Squarepants with 3-D handle umbrella. While Tibor Kalman's Sky Umbrella is understated, classy, and telegraphs that you know design, any umbrella that has a goofy face on it will make people smile in the horrid weather, even if you're in an under-the-scaffolding umbrella jousting match (Gothamist will close our umbrella, unless it's raining through the scaffolding). However, many city folk would prefer something like this Totes' Micron, which folds down to be 6 inches, perfect for pockets, purses, and European carryalls. But tomorrow is looking better! Hoorah!

Is there anything more annoying than people who walk with those huge ass umbrellas on the sidewalk?

You should only carry those umbrellas if you are:

1. Morbidly obese and need all the coverage

2. A hopelessly lost hotel doorman

3. Playing golf

4. A picnic table

Otherwise, you should be punched in the nuts for carrying an oversized umbrella. Also, Windefyers are quality.

Gah!! Brella bar's clear bubble umbrellas are over $100!!! Umbrella is a pauper and was hoping to spend no more than, say, $20. :(

Although I won't buy anything but a $3 bodega umbrella here, if I lived in a place where I could keep track on an umbrella I'd buy a Pare Umbrella

I've been looking everywhere for a clear bubble umbrella. Can't seem to find one. How can this be?

I always liked the sky umbrella, but they need to make a vented "wind-proof" version. The last thing you want to worry about with your nice umbrella is having the ribs cracked by a sudden gust.
